At the request of the Society for Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology and the American Neuropsychiatric Association, the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS) extended the practice track for the BN&NP certification examination to 2014. The examination was administered in November. From now on, only graduates of UCNS-accredited BN&NP fellowships will be eligible to sit for initial certification examinations in this subspecialty.
The first BN&NP certification examination was administered in 2006. UCNS certifications last ten years. Therefore, physicians who were first certified in 2006 must sit for a recertification examination in 2016. The recertification examination will be shorter than the initial examination and the fee will be lower. UCNS recertification examinations are offered every other year. Therefore, those physicians who were certified in 2007 must sit for their recertification examination in 2016. Information about the requirements for maintaining UCNS certification can be found on the UCNS website at http://www.ucns.org/globals/axon/assets/8082.pdf.
